Common Name:  Pink Abelia

Habit:  Abelia is a bushy shrub with small oval leaves which begin a bronze colour and turn to a dark glossy green as they age. It can reach a height of around 2.5m and the same width.

Flowers: Blooms appear in late spring and stay until the end of Autumn. Flowers are tiny lilac bells, they appear in clusters all over the plant. Behind the flower clusters form bronze bracts which remain after the flowers are finished giving the impression of extended flowering.

Care:  Abelia can grow in almost any soil but is best in a light sandy type. Choose a sunny, sheltered position although it does do fine in semi to shaded positions.  Water twice a week until established and keep well watered in Summer. The canes tend to arch up and become messy so regular pruning to keep tidy is sensible and saves major work later in the year. Not a particularly frost hardy plant it will need protection from harsh winters.
