Common Name: Persian silk tree
Habit: This small, deciduous tree is native to southwest and east Asia. It grows up to 16m high and has a broad level crown of arching branches. The foliage is pinnate, small, oblong opposing leaves along each stem giving it a fern like appearance. The leaves will fold up at night time and in wet weather.
Flowers: In the summer the tree is covered in fluffy pink flower heads. Blooms are fragrant and will attract bees. Seed pods resembling flat beans appear after the flowers and can remain into winter.
Care: Plant in full sun, soil can be poor to moderately fertile and needs to be well drained. Mulch and water well during the summer and once a year add an application of blood and bone.
