Common Name: Saint Joseph’s Wort
Habit: Basil grows up to 30cm tall and has a bushy habit. Its leaves are small, bright vibrant green and fragrant. This plant is smaller than the regular Basil plant making it excellent for windowsills and small planters. Regular harvesting keeps this plant full and fresh.
Flowers: Delicate white blooms on spikes can appear if you do not remember to pinch them out as you harvest. Allowing the plant to flower will cause the leaves to lose flavour, however as soon as you remove the flowers the flavour returns.
Care: Basil works well in a container, plant into well drained soil in a sunny window position as it needs plenty of good sunlight. This herb is very sensitive to cold and even a light frost will kill it. Mix through some compost at the time of planting or at the beginning of the growing season. Water when the soil appears dry taking care to water at the base rather than over the foliage.
