Common Name: Sunflower
 
Habit:  Nothing says summer like sunflowers, grown for their look and for their edible seeds. Plants are very tall growing up to 3 meters.  The rough hairy stem produces leaves which are on short stalks attached to the main stem and have rectangular teeth along the edges.
Flowers:  Blooms are large daisy-like faces with bright yellow petals and brown centres that ripen into big heads full of seeds.
When the flower head turns brown on the back the edible seeds are ready to harvest. Remove the flower head and harvest the seeds with your fingers or a fork.
Care: Sunflowers are remarkably tough and easy to grow provided the soil is not waterlogged. They prefer long hot summers and to flower well need at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight and shelter from winds.
Choose a slightly acidic soil which is rich in organic material or add a well composted manure. 
While the plant is small water around the root area 10cm from the plant and perhaps add some slug or snail pellets. Once established water very well once a week

طبيعة النبتة: تزرع لجمال ورودها ومن أجل بذورها القابلة للأكل. قد يصل طولها ل3م. تنمو شعيرات صغيرة على ساقها الطويلة.
طبيعة الزهرة: تتميز ورودها بلونها الأصفر الذي يحتوي على منتصف بني ينضج ليصبح البذور القابلة للأكل.
العناية: تعرف بقدرتها العالية لتحمل الظروف المختلفة وحبها للكثير من أشعة الشمس.
