Common Name:  Loquat
 
Habit:  Loquat trees are a Chinese native growing up to over 7m tall with a canopy of around 6m. The tough, leathery leaves are dark green and around 25cm long.
Flowers: Scented blooms appear in Autumn or early Winter and are produced in groupings of 2-5 flowers, each white flower is 2cm across with 5 petals. Fruit is ripe any time from early spring to early summer and grow in clusters. These are small, oval and around 5cm long, loquat fruit is yellow in colour with a white or yellow flesh.
Care: Loquat trees are sensitive to cold but can survive down to -12deg C, however anything under -3deg will kill the flowers and fruit.  When planting choose a sunny location 7-8m away from structures and other trees. Rinse off the root ball before planting to ensure the roots come into direct contact with the soil. Water twice in the first week and after keep the soil lightly moist around the tree until it begins to show new growth.  Fertilise three times per year with a lawn fertiliser which does not contain weed killers.

طبيعة النبتة: قد يصل طولها ل7م قد تنمو على شكل مظلة. تعرف أوراقها بقوتها ولونها الأخضر الداكن.
طبيعة الزهرة:  تظهر ورودها البيضاء العبقة في فصل الخريف وبداية فصل الشتاء وتنمو في مجموعات صغيرة. تكون ثمارها قابلة للأكل في بداية فصل الربيع إلى بداية فصل الصيف.
العناية: لا تحتمل درجات الحرارة العالية. يجب زراعتها في مناطق مشمسة بعيدا عن الأشجار الأخرى.
