Common Name: Flame Tree
 
Habit:  Originally from Madagascar this large spreading tree is deciduous and can reach up to 18 meters high. It has smooth grey bark and fernlike lacy leaves
Flowers: In spring hundreds of spoon shaped, flame red flowers appear alongside hanging brown pods which rattle in the wind.
Care: Poinciana trees need a bright full sun location and plenty of room. Water regularly to help in establishing a healthy deep root system to begin with and then once established only during very dry periods. Prune away lower limbs while the tree is young to allow room underneath for walking once it's grown. If tree limbs grow too far from the trunk prune to prevent splitting.
Keep in mind that this tree is very frost sensitive.
