Common Name: Peach
 
Habit:  This deciduous tree has origins in China, it grows up to 10m tall, the leaves are lance shaped, long and a little droopy.
Flowers: Pink blooms with 5 petals each appear in early spring before the leaves. In order to flower and fruit peach trees require a certain number of chill hours in temperatures no higher than 7c and once that is achieved the next warm spell will bring on blooming. If they don't attain between 600 and 900 chill hours the flowers may not open at all.
Care:  Plant in an open sunny position in a sandy loam with good drainage, too much water sitting in the soil will damage the root system. When choosing a tree find a small one with a good root system, soak the roots for 6-12 hours prior to planting.  Dig a large hole big enough for the root system to grow into and mix in some organic matter and slow release fertiliser. After you've planted the tree soak the area completely and keep free of weeds.
