Common Name:   Scarlet Sage
 
Habit:  This sage forms a shrubby upright clump with white mealy stems and dark green leaves. This shrub grows up to 45cm high and 30cm across.
Flowers: In early to mid-summer flower spikes appear with generally red blooms, however they can come in white pink purple or lavender, making it a popular ornamental in the garden.
Care: Plant in full sun where possible as this herb has its best flavour with more light. Ensure soil is well drained, mix sand into clay type soils to aid drainage, Sage can tolerate alkaline soil but not wet winters. Frost does not seem to be a problem but in very hot climates Sage is treated as an annual.
Can cope with some frost but does not do well in the heat of summer, hot climates it's an annual
Prune heavier woody stems in early spring.
