Scented gardens

We all know that gardens provide relaxation, beauty and shade but don’t dismiss the delight of scent when planning your outdoor space. Using scented plants simply adds an extra element to your space, a lovely sweet scent wafting on the breeze can really make a difference.

Location in the garden is very important, you don’t want to plant too many varieties together or the scents could become overwhelming. Just one or two in each section of your garden can make an amazing difference. Your fragrant herbs like Rosemary, Mint and Thyme would need to be closer to the house where you can make use of them. The stronger scented plants like Jasmine need to be placed a little away where their strong scents can float in on the breeze. Gardenias make a lovely statement in a garden bed and have an amazing aroma. Paths and borders are wonderful places to put plants with leaves that release their fragrance as you brush past them such as Lavender and Artemesia. These are excellent choices for people with hayfever as the leaves do not affect their allergies.

There are a few suggestions here to help you decide, there is a wide range of shapes, sizes and styles to make the option of adding scent to your garden an easy choice.
