To continue our conversation about fragrant plants lets discover Jasmine.

Jasmine plants are one of the world’s best known scented plants, they come in several different shapes and sizes all with that glorious scent that people instantly recognise.

Jasmine is used in a variety of ways; the Chinese make a lovely Jasmine flower tea. It is used traditionally during religious observances and hair ornaments in some parts of India, often during weddings and other ceremonies. And of course Jasmine is widely used as a scent in perfumes, soaps and hair products all across the globe.

There are several varieties making it very easy to find one to suit your requirements and all of these can be found in our online store:

Jasmine Grandiflora is a semi-evergreen vine growing up to 6 meters tall with small, pointed green leaves and clusters of white flowers shaped like stars. This Jasmine loves to be out in the sun with perhaps some afternoon shade.

Jasmine Officinale is a deciduous climber, the leaves on this plant are slightly duller in colour, the flowers are white clusters of stars with slightly narrower leaves than the Grandiflora. It also likes plenty of sun with a little afternoon shade to protect from the heat.

Jasmine Polyanthum is also a climber, the leaves on this variety are light on the underside and darker on

top. The flower buds on this variety start out pink before opening with white petals giving the blooms a multi coloured look. This one needs slightly less sunshine and more watering than the others.

Jasmine Sambac is an individual being more like a shrub, reaching up to 3 meters tall. It makes a lovely hedge planted in groupings. The flowers are white star shapes with wide petals. It is happy in full sun but grows just fine in the shade.
